We promise...that as long as your pet is our patient, we will do our best to meet the health care needs and provide you with all the information necessary to make the best decisions for your animal friend.

We promise...that our Doctors and staff will treat clients, patients, and one another in a courteous and professional manner under every circumstance. We will employ only qualified doctors and staff, and will maintain the hygienic environment of our hospital, grounds, and equipment for our benefit of your animal.

We promise...to be available whenever possible to help your pet in the event of an emergency, during or after regular office hours. We will offer the best emergency and critical care our hospital has available if your pet has an emergency.

We promise...to answer any questions you may have to the best of our knowledge and to seek answers or provide references if we are unable to offer you a solution.

We promise...to offer fair prices that reflect the quality of the care we provide. We will inform you of your charges, obtain your permission before adding additional charges for optional services, and provide an approximate estimate of costs upon request for any procedure performed in our hospital.

  • Rex Payne, DVM

    Rex Payne, DVM

    Dr. Payne earned his B.A. in Animal Husbandry from Michigan State University in 1968, and graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1972. He is a member of the AVMA, MVMA, and AAEP. Rex has too many animals to count and enjoys farming, hunting, and horses. He has beautiful Quarterhorses and two impressive Belgian draft horses at the Country Equine Center. Rex also has a Verein Deutch Drahthaar hunting dog named Briar. Rex has a special fondness for large animal medicine and equine reproduction.

  • Glenn Walquist, DVM

    Glenn Walquist, DVM

    Dr. Walquist earned a B.A. in chemistry from Michigan State University in 1983 and graduated from the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. He and his wife Dr. Waldo have been at the Country Veterinary Clinic since June of 2003. Glenn is interested in all areas of general medicine and has special interests in orthopedic surgery.  He is a member of the AVMA, MVMA, and the Michigan Canoe Race Association.  Glenn thoroughly enjoys maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle, particularly running, swimming, and canoeing. He is a fully-recovered "golfaholic" and now enjoys watering and growing plants and trees. Glenn is also studying German simply for pure interest.

  • Laura Waldo, DVM

    Laura Waldo, DVM

    Dr. Waldo graduated from the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988 and is a member of the AVMA, MVMA, and Phi Zeta Veterinary Honor Society. She and her husband, Dr. Walquist, have been at the Country Veterinary Clinic since June of 2003. They have two incredible sons named Barrett and Ryan whom they love dearly; these guys are so funny and will make you laugh. Laura and Glenn currently have three pets: Kayla a dalmation mix who is sweet as pie, Suzi a yorkie who rules the roost, and a canary named James.  Laura enjoys training for and running Ultramarathons, 50 and 100 mile races (yes, all at once without stopping!), running normal road marathons as "fun runs" for the ultras, hanging out at Lake Michigan with family and friends, going to skate bowls at skate parks to watch her sons skate, and pretty much anything exercising in the out-of-doors. She likes teaching clients about their pet's health and working with them to understand and manage a physical illness.  Dr. Waldo is very interested in continuing education, especially internal medicine and surgery, small animal ultrasound and integrating traditional Chinese medicine with Western medicine for optimizing patients' health.

  • Amanda, LVT

    Amanda, LVT

    Amanda graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology in 2002 and began working at the clinic that fall. She and her husband Matthew have a beautiful daughter named Amber. They also have a pointer mix named Milla, Decy a blue-point siamese cat, Samone and Wylee Nawtee both siamese mixes, Hilty a black-white domestic cat, and Feebee a calico-white domestic cat.  Amanda enjoys walking with her daughter and dog, tie-dying, sewing, reading, baking and cooking, and is a reality TV junkie.  She is interested in all areas of small animal medicine.

    Anya, LVT

    Anya has been working at the Country Veterinary Clinic since the fall of 2003, and graduated from Baker College in 2004 with a degree in Veterinary Technology.  She is an avid outdoor fanatic and loves to spend time hunting, fishing, running, and working with her pets.  She has three horses: an Arabian named Amir and two Paints named Comet and Finn.  She also has cats named Hootie, Fluff, and Mrs. Cat, a 3-legged cat. Anya enjoys learning about animal behavior and laboratory procedures.

    Connie

    Connie began working at the clinic in 2007 and is a member of the Prairieland Bloodhound Club and the American Bloodhound Club. She is married to her best friend Kurt and they have three children, Ben, Josh, and Tara. The Lubbens have sheep, chickens, ducks, and a pig along with PJ, a border collie, and bloodhounds named Belle, Rebel, Catherine, Rose, Phire, FlutterBug and Bonita. Connie enjoys dog showing, knitting, and camping. Being an AKC breeder of bloodhounds and border collies, she enjoys learning about canine reproduction and canine behavior.

    Megan, LVT

    Megan has been with the clinic since 2005 after having graduated from the Bel Rea Institute of Animal Technology in Denver, Colorado. She is a long-time member of the Gorilla Foundation and is very interested in Alternative Medicine (herbs and homeopathics) and Animal Message Therapy.  Megan enjoys singing and gardening.  She and her husband Royce have numerous pets including 7 alpine goats named Lucky, Bean, Iris, Sweet Pea, Jade, Amythest, and Rosie.  She also has a pug named Dermott, Bella a newfoundland/labrador mix, Brittney a rat terrier/min-pinscher mix, and two cats named Scout and Ethyl.

    Betty grew up in Ludington and married her best friend and high school sweetheart.  Jim and Betty have been married for twenty-two years.  They have two kids, Ashlynn and Richie, along with a seven month old Bolognese / Havanese mix named Abby.  In her spare time, Betty enjoys baking, going for walks in the beautiful outdoors, reading and spending time with her family and friends.

    Jonathan

    Jonathan graduated from Calvin College in 2000 with degrees in History, English Literature, and Secondary Education. After teaching and coaching for seven years, he began working at the Country Veterinary Clinic in 2008. He and his wife Shannon are maintaining a small zoo with their current pet total holding steady at twenty. They have six dogs: Bella a sweetie-pie black lab mix, Fiona an Australian Cattle Dog who herds everything, Mattilda a blue merle Border Collie who stares down the other pets into submission and is awesome at playing frisbee, and three Siberian Huskies named Rocky, Winnie, and Mickey who are always up for an outdoor adventure. They have two premium Ster Friesian geldings named Titan and Kerrick who drive carts, trail ride, and do dressage; they are also very snuggly and make googly eyes at their mommy.  Finally, there are twelve rescue cats, Whiskers, Scarlett, Tabitha, Fuzzalina, Victor, Cleo, Syndr, Caesar, Princess Toni, Mufasa, Simba, and Nala, and each of them are funny and unique in their own ways.  Jonathan enjoys being home putzing around their small hobby farm, cycling, hunting, kayaking, planting and watering trees, gardening, outdoor cooking, smoking meat, and tapping trees and making maple syrup. There never seems to be enough time to do all of the fun things in life.
